CRIPPLED CHILDREN

MEETING OF WAIRARAPA EXECUTIVE MANY ACTIVITIES CONTINUE. SUCCESS AT WANGANUI COMPETITIONS. A meeting of the executive of the Wairarapa branch of the Crippled Children Society was held yesterday, Mr E. M. Hodder presiding. Advice was received that subject Io certain life interests, the income of an estate had been left, by the late Mr Frank Williams, to the Wairarapa branch of the society. It would be some years before the income would be available to the society. Appreciation was expressed of (he bequest. A sub-committee was appointed to go into the matter of educational research, for the purpose of producing a booklet on the subject for the guidance of parents, welfare officers, teachers and others interested in the Crippled Children Society. Since the last meeting of the society it was reported, the welfare officer, Mrs Kilgour, had visited Wellington and. in conjunction with the Wellington welfare officer, had called on several crippled children receiving specialist treatment in Wellington hospitals. The experience gained on this visit was considered to be most valuable.

A further successful operation, it was stated, had been performed on a child for cleft palate. It was decided to make the necessary arrangements for the child to receive speech training.

A report on the crippled children competitions held recently in Wanganui was considered most' satisfactory. A large number of prizes had been won by children in the Wairarapa. The executive expressed its appreciation of the work done by Miss N. Allan in organising the Wairarapa children's exhibits. It was stated that a position had been secured for a person on the patient’s roll of the society. Very satisfactory reports were received concerning three boys for whom employment had been found last year. The boys were stated to be doing excellently. and the employers were most satisfied with their work. iTior to the next meeting of the society, it was stated, the welfare officer would make her quarterly visit to all crippled children on the society’s roll throughout the Wairarapa
