VICHY CLAIM
REGARDING OPERATIONS IN MADAGASCAR. POSITIONS SUCCESSFULLY HELD. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) LONDON. October 20. A Vichy communique states: “A British attack on October 19 against positions in the Ambositra sector was preceded by a systematic bombardment, in which a thousand shells were dropped on our improvised trenches. Our tro'ops, although hard pressed from every side, obliged the enemy to retreat.”
