BASIC WAGE
INCREASES IN AUSTRALIA. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) MELBOURNE, October 19. Increases in the basic wage of 3s a week for Melbourne, 2s for Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth, and Is for Hobart have been granted and will operate next month. The increases have been granted because of the rise in the cost of living. The new weekly basic wage rates will be: Sydney and Melbourne £4 17s, Adelaide £4 13s, Brisbane and Perth £4 Ils, Hobart £4 12s.
