SEASON CLOSED
ST. MATTHEW’S BADMINTON CLUB
ASSISTANCE FROM KNOX PLAYERS.
The St. Matthew’s Badminton Club brought its season’s activities to a close at the McGregor Hall, Masterton, last night. The St. Matthew’s Club, which was over thirty members strong, lost its courts in the Parish Hall when the hall was taken over as a church after the earthquakes. By the kindly co-operation of the Knox Club, however, the St. Matthew’s Club was able to continue its activities in the McGregor Hall. Many enjoyable games were played last night, following which the ladies served supper. Mr W. L. Harrington, on behalf of St. Matthew's Club, expressed appreciation of the Knox Club’s sporting gesture in allowing the club to use its courts in conjunction with the Knox Club members! Three rousing cheers were given for the Knox Club. Miss A. McLaren, on behalf of the Knox Club, said that members of her club had been glad to have the St. Matthew’s Club there. Had the Knox Hall been taken over she knew that St. Matthew’s would have offered the use of its courts.
Mr W. Marchbank, president of the Wairarapa Badminton Association, said it was very pleasing to see such a cooperative spirit in existence between the clubs. He added- that it augured well for the future, when the association’s teams would be competing again. Mr and Mrs Harrington later entertained members at their residence in Cambridge Terrace.
