GUESTS OF HONOUR
POPULAR CONCERT PARTY INTERHOUSE ASSOCIATION’S GATHERING. EXCELLENT ENTERTAINMENT. The Savage Club rooms were packed on Saturday night, scores of guests haying to stand, when the Interhouse Association entertained the members of Mrs Miller Hope s concert party, their parents and friends at a complimentary social gathering in appreciation of the excellent service rendered by the party in providing concerts throughout the past few months- in various parts of the Wairarapa, the company having staged over thirty concerts in that time and having been most warmly welcomed and appreciated. Mr G. Daubney presided, and in referring to the high class entertainments put on by Mrs Hope’s party stated that the greatest credit was due to Mrs Hope for her blilliant organising work and to the girls for the ability shown in various sections of entertainment. Mrs Hope expressed her thanks to the many helpers who had associated themselves with her party and to the girls for their staunch loyalty, their outstanding entertainment work and their excellent behaviour. It had been a treat to have been associated with such a splendid type of gnl who appreciated the responsibilities connected with the presentation pf concerts. Mrs Miller Hope also expressed her gratitude to Mr Gray and his orchestra for their great assistance in providing items which were very popular wherever presented. Mr J. H. Cunningham, on behalf of the guests, expressed appreciation of the opportunity afforded them to hear a concert of such outstanding merit. He congratulated the organiser and the performers whose undoubted ability would doubtless come as a surprise to many of the audience. During the evening Mr Daubney on behalf of the Interhouse Association, made presentations to Mrs Miller Hope, Miss Florence Bellis (whose work as secretary and announcer has been invaluable), and Mollie Iveson (pianist), making reference to the splendid service they had rendered in this section of the Interhouse Association’s patriotic activities. On behalf of the members of the company. Miss F. Bellis, presented Miss M. Iveson with a beautiful cup, saucer and plate in appreciation of the services freely given by her in playing the music at the rehearsals. The programme was as follows:—Choruses (Misses F. Bellis, Mura Prescott, Isa Vincent. Flo Youngquest, Vi. Edwards, Helen Bannister. Hira Tauwhera, M. Fulton, Norma Brown, Winnie Nyhan, Mollie Iveson, O. Richards Noeline Wickens and Sheila Kennedy) : solo. “Sergeant Sally,” Miss B. Perrin' recitations, Mrs Miller and Mrs Leadley (outstanding items which were vociferously encored) : orchestral items, -Mr J. Gray's orchestra (Mrs J. Gray. Misses G. Greig and B. Gray, Messrs J. Gray. S. Taylor, Larsen, and G. Hutchison); Nignt in Paris” (Misses Joan Naanf Ola Curry and Betty Jones) : “Sunbonnet Blue” l Misses M. Fulton. B. Perrin, B. Jones); solos.. Misses Helen Bannister and Hira Tauwhare; Fijian dance in costume (Misses H. Tauwhare, N. Brown, B. Perrin. F. Bell'is and W. Nyhan). This was a particularly popular turn. Dance, Betty Jones: military tap (Misses H. Tauwhare, Norma Brown, O. Richards and Ola Curry); “Dandelion, Daisy and Daffodil (Misses H. Tauwhare, H. Bannister and M. Fulton- an outstanding item); ballets (Misses O. Curry, N. Brown, Joan Naan and H. Tauwhere). Every item was warmly encored. The accompaniments were played by Mrs Miller Hope, Mr Miller Hope and Miss M. Iveson. The ballets and dances were especially well executed. At the conclusion of the concert supper was provided by the Interhouse Association and a dance followed. Messrs G. Daubney and L. Askew being M.C’s., and the music being supplied by Mrs Miller Hope.
