MASTERTON MEETING
PRINCIPAL EVENT TO ENRICH. A WIN FOR PALORA. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) OTAKI, October 18. Though favourites did not fare too well al Otaki ou Saturday, where the Masterton Racing Club staged its spring meeting, the fixture was an outstanding success. The
weather was brilliant, and there was a large crowd, while the totalisator investments showed a remarkable increase on meetings held on the club’s own course. The principal event, the Masterton Handicap, was won by Enrich, and the sprint went to Palora. Indian Sport paid a sensational win dividend in tile concluding race.
Tile track was hal'd and fast, and Hie toialisator handled £3(1.144, compared with .1119.277 for the two days last year al Opaki. when the weather was unfavourable. Results:—

James, proposed a very hearty vote of thanks to the president and officials of the Gtaki Maori Club, whose gesture in placing the course and appointments at the disposal of the Masterton Club was greatly appreciated, and whose valuable assistance contributed in no small way to the success of the meeting. Owing to lack of transport facilities the great majority of Masterton patrons were unable to make the trip to Gtaki but members are to be congratulated on their sporting attitude in supporting the club despite the fact that they were prevented from attending the meeting.
SOUTH CANTERBURY ALL NIGHT SUCCESSFUL. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) TIMARU. October 18. . The South Canterbury Jockey Club’s spring meeting was held yesterday in fine weather. The totalisator handled £25,675, compared with £17,548 10s on the corresponding day last year. A bad smash happened in the Flying Handicap, Leighnor. Sally Lunn, Stabilise and Egyptian Rose all losing their riders. Leighnor broke a leg anef was destroyed. At an inquiry the finding was that the accident was due to the falling oi Leighnor and that it was not attributable to careless riding.
