EXPRESSION OF DEEPEST CONTEMPT I MADE AT MEETING BEFORE WAR. PACTS MADE TO GAIN TIME. (Received This Day, 11.10 a-m.) CHICAGO, October 18. In an excited speech to his generals nine days before the war began, Hitler expressed the deepest contempt for the King of Italy and the Emperor oi Japan, asserting: “Our strength consists in our speed and our brutality. . Details of this notable gathering at Berchtesgaden are revealed by Louis Lochner, former Associated Press correspondent in Berlin, whose informant was a German officer who .was present at the meeting. Hitler voiced distrust of Japan, declaring: “The Emperor is a counterpart of the last Czar, weak, cowardly and undecided. May he fall a victim to revolution.” Hitler added that the German NonAggression Pact with Poland was made only to gain time. Furthermore, the economic pact with the soviet was just a piece of paper. “We shall demolish the Soviet,” he yelled.
