UNIVERSITY STUDENTS
AND SERVICE IN ARMY. SPECIAL FACILITIES PROVIDED ’ IN NEW SOUTH WALES. Special provisions by which undergraduates of non-reserved Faculties at Sydney University who are in the Army may complete their university courses from camp, and by which Army men may qualify for the Matriculation examination from camp, have been ratified.
Mr J .S. Collings, a science graduate, when he addressed the annual conference of the Secondary Teachers’ Association of New South Wales, explained (hat the scheme would permit students in the Army to complete their courses if they wished, by taking individual subjects at a time. Army men wishing to qualify for the Matriculation examination could also do this. In each case the full courses might be spaced over an indefinite period. A secretariat to help implement the scheme had been set up, and would receive finance from the Army. A register was being compiled of voluntary tutors who would be prepared to help students. The actual courses would be given at the discretion of the heads of departments at the University. They would also approve or disallow the appointment of tutors.
