INCESSANT ATTACKS
ON JAPANESE-OCCUPIED TOWNS.
IN EASTERN CHINA
(British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 9.40 a.m.) RUGBY, October 15.
For the last 75 days, it is stated by a Chinese authority in London, the Chinese in the Chekiang-Kiangsi area have been attacking the towns of Lanchi and Wuyei, both north-west of the key city of Kinhwa, which is still in Japanese hands. During the past fortnight the Chinese have concentrated on disrupting the Japanese communications between Kinhwa and Shanghai, with the object of preventing supplies arriving from Hangchow and Shanghai, and have destroyed several bridges on the Kinhwa-Lanchi Highway. The Japanese are still firmly entrenched at Kinhwa. but the Chinese mopping-up operations proceed incessantly. Fighting has occurred in North China, particularly in the Suiyuan area, but there is still no indication of the next Japanese move in the Chinese war theatre.
