MORE GERMAN ATTACKS FAIL
Russians Pressing In On Flanks POSITION MORE SERIOUS IN EASTERN CAUCASUS EFFORTS TO ARREST ENEMY THRUST * LONDON, October 15. Another attack has been launched by the Germans at Stalingrad. The main objective is the factory area in the northwest of the city. A Berlin report says German forces have captured a tractor works, although a week ago the Axis-controlled Vichy radio stated that the works had already been completely demolished. The Russians state that the Germans made four separate attacks in attempting to break through to the factory but all failed. The enemy suffered heavy casualties and lost 23 tanks. North-west and south-west of the city the Russian spear-, heads are striking’ at the exposed enemy flanks. The situation in the Mozdok area has grown more serious in the past 24 hours. The Germans have succeeded in driving a wedge of armoured forces into the Russian positions. The battle is swaying to and fro and the Russians have moved forward at some points.
There has been no considerable change in the fighting’ on the Black Sea coast.
