PERSONAL

Sir Alexander Roberts was elected president of the Automobile Association (Wellington) for the fifteenth consecutive year of office at the association's annual meeting last night’. The London “Daily Worker” says that the British Deputy Prime Minister, Mr Attlee, has been offered the post of Viceroy of India, in succession to the Marquess of Linlithgow, who is due to retire early in 1943. The pursuit of full-time military duties precluded Mr S. K. Siddells continuing in office as Mayor of Pahiatua. Mr Siddells tendered his resignation and nominations were called for the office. The only nomination received was that of the acting-Mayor, Mr S. J. Judd, who consequently has been returned as mayor for the ensuing period.
