GOLF
N.Z. ASSOCIATION
HEAVY DECREASE IN MEMBERSHIP.
LOSS ON YEAR’S WORKING.
(By Telegraph—Press Association.) AVELLINGTON, This Day
“War Conditions,” said Sir Alexander Roberts at the annual meeting of the New Zealand Golf Association, “have caused a heavy loss of membership, 78 clubs having left the association since last year, reducing the number to 245.” He spoke of the difficulty facing golfers to keep the game going, particularly in regard to balls but mentioned that a synthetic ball was being produced in America which might perhaps ease the position. The report mentioned that £l5OO had been invested in war loans. The- loss on the year's working was £75 9s 3d but the accumulated fund remained at £l9OO.
A suggestion was put forward that where practicable courses should be altered to eliminate areas in which balls were inclined to be lost.
The retiring council was re-elected
