CARTERTON
PATRIOTIC SPIRIT STRONGLY IN EVIDENCE. (“Times-Age” Special.) Carterton continues to carry out excellent work in entertaining soldiers and otherwise making them feel at home. Private and public parties arc held practically every night and every means is taken to see that the men of the services do not lack entertainment. The patriotic spirit of Carterton is everywhere in evidence as it was in the Great War. Carterton is contributing substantially to the various patriotic and war funds, and in every way possible is doing its bit to win the war.
A Big Calf. A calf born on a local dairy farm weighed 1301bs at birth but did not live. The calf was of an extraordinary size, as will be seen from the fact that the ordinary healthy calf* weighs about 401bs. Mr S. Fletcher, veterinary surgeon, said that during his long experience he had never seen such a big calf at birth. Fire Siren. The Carterton Volunteer Fire Brigade’s electric siren, which was originally on the top of the damaged fire station, has been erected near the Dalefield Dairy Co’s' premises. The work was carried out by Power Board employees and the siren is now ready for use.
