£5O GRANT FROM BOROUGH COUNCIL.
ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF GIFTS.
The monthly meeting of the Masterton Branch of the Plunket Society was held in Masterton yesterday afternoon. There were present: Mesdames J. Caselberg (in the chair), N. Irwin, C. Carmine, D. Donald, A. H. Falloon, J. M. James, H. Robinson, I. Bunny, W. Wardell, T. Jordan, E. Heffer, H. Daniell, E. G. Norman, R. Drummond, P. Nathan, H. Keltie, G. Cowie, A. F. Stewart and Miss B. Kummer. . In the absence of Mrs Free, Mrs A. F. Stewart acted as hon. secretary. Apologies for absence were received from Mesdames Coradine, C. T. Richardson, Kemble Welch and H. Morrison (Tinui). Mesdames Sortain Smith and J. C. Broad were also absent, being in charge of the nursery at 25 Essex Street.
The Dominion Secretary, Dunedin, wrote with reference to the levies towards headquarters’ expenses and the superannuation fund, and the nomination of members for the Dominion Executive Council.
The secretary of the St. John Ambulance Voluntary Aid Detachment wrote thanking the branch for the use of. the Plunket Rooms and enclosing a donation of £1 Is to the society. The hon. treasurer. (Mrs N. Irwin) presented accounts amounting to £ll9 8s 9d, which were passed. During the month of September a donation of £5O from the Masterton Borough Council was gratefully received. A vote of thanks was passed to the Tinui sub-branch for the annual levy towards the nurse’s salary and travelling expenses, £3O, with the addition of £10; also to the Mauriceville subbranch for its contribution to the annual levy, of £25 for the same services.
The president (Mrs Caselberg) reported having attended the monthly meeting of the house committee at the Karitane Hospital, Featherston. Owing to transport difficulties it was agreed that the visits should cease for the present. Thanks for gifts'of clothing were expressed to Mesdames A. G. Pilmer, R. Campbell, R. H. Williams (cardigan), and to Miss Sallie Dean for a beautifully knitted quilt. The committee expressed its appreciation of Miss Dean’s generous gift- i ~ . The nurses’ report for the month of September stated: —Masterton: Visits to office: Adults, 501; babies, 449; preschool children, 39; total, 989. Visits to homes: New cases, 60; old cases, 120; total, 180. Pre-school children, seen in homes, town, 14; new cases for the month (town), 27. Out-stations: Tinui sub-branch, Taueru, Blairlogie. Tinui, Tinui Valley. Whakataki, 2 visits each; new cases, 2; visits to new cases, 3, visits to old cases, 20; total, 23. Mauriceville sub-branch, Kopuaranga, Mauriceville East apd West, 2 visits each; Mangamahoe and Ihuraua Valley, Mt. Bruce, 1 visit each. New cases, 1. Visits to new cases, 2; visits to old cases, 25; total, 27. Pre-school children seen in homes, 8. Pre-natal section, total visits, 15.
