OBITUARY

MR E. E. EVERNDEN. The death occurred at the Masterton Hospital yesterday afternoon of Mr Ernest E. Evernden, a well known and highly respected resident of Masterton, and formerly of Dannevirke. A son of the late Mr Richard Evernden. a pioneer builder and contractor of the Wairarapa, the late Mr E. E. Evernden was born and educated at Masterton. He entered the service of the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd. 34 years ago at Dannevirke and was transferred to Masterton. He later travelled throughcut New Zealand on the firm’s business, and was widely known by the farming community. He retired 6 years ago and has since resided in Masterton. The late Mr Evernden’s first wife predeceased him some years ago. He leaves, besides his widow, three sons, 2nd Lieutenant A. R. G. Evernden, of Lower Hutt, Messrs Leslie Ernest Evernden and Bruce A. Evernden, of Masterton.
