These are distributed through the Navy League War Council to men of the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy in England, and to men serving in New Zealand waters.
A report of the Navy League War Council’s annual meeting was received from Wellington. This report stated that during the past two years 135,000 garments as well as other goods had been sent to the Navy League Head Office in London for distribution to men of the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy. In addition 30,000 garments had been distributed in New Zealand. It was reported that Navy League pennants had been presented at Hadlow Preparatory School, Solway College and St. Matthew's School on September 22, the presentations being made by Captain J. Lampen. R.N.Z.N. The committee wish to thank all those who are assisting the work of the League, in any way, by donations of money and garments, and by knitting Navy League wool into the warm clothing so urgently needed. A letter was received from a Masterton naval airman conveying thanks to the Navy League for the woollen comforts issued to the writer before he left for England. The woollen clothes had been of great service in keeping out the very cold weather in the South Pacific and North Atlantic. He wished the Masterton branch of the Navy League continued success, “and may many of our boys in the service continue to receive your gifts which are so well appreciated by those in the sea service.”
