THREE AMERICAN HEAVY CRUISERS DURING AUGUST OPERATIONS AT SAME TIME AS CANBERRA WAS SUNK. LONDON, October 12. The loss of three United States heavy cruisers during the initial stages of the operations in the Solomons Islands in August, was announced by Washington today. The ships were lost at the same time as the Australian cruiser Canberra was sunk.
