CONTINUES AT STALINGRAD
Only Recent German Attack Completely Repulsed RENEWED ENEMY ATTEMPT TO BREAK THROUGH TO GROZNY HEAVY REINFORCEMENTS BEING THROWN IN LONDON, October 12. Artillery duels and heavy bombing from the air are still the main features of the fighting at Stalingrad. In the last 24 hours the Germans have launched only one’ infantry attack. Two battalions attacked in the workers’ settlement but ; they were completely repulsed. During the recent lull the Russians have strengthened their defences in preparation for another bigenemy assault. ... In the Eatsern Caucasus heavy fighting is taking place m the Mozdok area. The Germans have flung in big reinforcements of tanks, infantry and planes in another attempt to break through to the Grozny oilfields. In the Novorossisk area the Russians and the enemy have both recently scored minor successes but there is no appreciable change in the situation. A German report says the struggle at Stalingrad is settlingdown to trench warfare.
