LATEST OFFICIAL FORECAST COLD AND CHANGEABLE. GRADUAL IMPROVEMENT LIKELY. The following official weather report and forecast was issued by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, at noon today:— DISTRICT FORECAST: South to south-easterly winds, still strong. Weather cold and changeable, with occasional passing showers, but fair intervals. FURTHER OUTLOOK: Gradually improving, but still cold, with sharp frosts. LOCAL REPORT. Ml' N. W. Towns reports as follows for the 24 hours ended 8 a.m. today:— Barograph, 30.61. Shade temperature: Maximum 67.1, minimum 39.8, terrestrial 37. Rain, 34 points. Mr H. M'. Boddington reports that 28 points of rain fell at Solway during the 24 hours ended 9 a.m. today. PHASES OF THE MOON. OCTOBER. New moon, October 10. First quarter, October 17. Full moon, October 24. Draw blinds at 6.45 p.m. today; raise them at 5.5 a.m. tomorrow.
