AFTER MR WILLKIE
JAPANESE AIR RAIDERS VISITOR FEELS COMPLIMENTED. EXPERIENCE OF SHELLING. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) (Received This Day, 12.40 p.m.) NEW YORK, October 9. Mr Wendell Willkie, when touring the Yellow River front, had a taste of real danger, when four Japanese shells exploded near a railway station where he was travelling. Earlier, Mr Willkie missed by a few hours a heavy Japanese raid on Loyang, in which the enemy machine-gunned a blue coach similar to the special he used. The raid, by 35 planes, was the most violent made in North China in recent months. Mr Willkie remarked: “It seems that the Japanese really are after us. I am complimented that they pay me such attention.”
