CARTERTON
BOWLING ANNUAL MEETING OF LADIES' CLUB. (“Times-Age” Special.) Mrs W. Martin presided over the annual meeting of the Carterton Ladies’ Bowling Club held in the pavilion. The report of the past season’s activities was read by the secretary and adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows:—President, Mrs W. Martin (re-elected); hon secretary, Miss Armstrong; management committee, Mesdames V. L. Robinson, A. Adams, A. Thompson, H. Colson and Miss Lamb. Mrs B. Booth was thanked for her donation of a trophy for an all-day singles competition to be arranged during the season. It was announced that new members to the club would be welcomed. Donors of trophies during the past season were accorded a hearty vote of thanks. Opossum Season. Trappers in the Carterton district report an excellent season for opossums. Tiie Carterton correspondent of the “Times-Age” was yesterday shown a catch of some hundreds of beautiful skins nicely cured and in excellent condition. The included greys, browns and blacks. Several trappers realised 700, 800 to 900 skins each. State Theatre. Members of the Hall Committee (Crs. L. M. Clark and H. Mortenson) at last night’s meeting of the Carterton Borough Council submitted a plan for alterations to the State Theatre. The proposal is to enlarge the dancing space of the floor, provide more ciommodious ladies and men’s dressing rooms, a larger supper room and a kitchen which it is proposed to erect at the southern end of the building. The estimated cost of the alterations will be in the vicinity of £4OO. The proposals will be considered at a future council meeting.
