CONVOY TO RUSSIA
A SURVIVOR’S STORY.
POLITE U-BOAT CAPTAIN.
(British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.20 a.m.) RUGBY, September 28
Fifty-six survivors from the convoy to Russia in July arrived in Britain today. One survivor said that after his vessel sank, the attacking submarine surfaced and the commander said: “I was sorry to have to sink your ship.” “He gave us a course to follow to reach land,” the seaman added, “and food. We spent six days in a lifeboat before being picked up.”
