According to a Vichy communique, French positions in Madagascar are being stubbornly defended and the British have launched several attacks 40 miles south of Antananarivo. The Vichy radio says Marshal Petain sent a message to the Madagascar people, through M. Annet saying: “Britain may. occupy Madagascar, but will not overcome the obstacle which holds out against machine-guns and cannon —your determined will to remain French.” - .
