MORE DIVISIONS
HURLED IN BY GERMANS ATTACK PRESSED IN SPITE OF LOSSES. ATTEMPT TO CUT ACROSS CITY. (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright) LONDON, September 28. The Germans have rushed up more crack divisions to hurl against Stalingrad. "In spite of the enemy’s huge losses, his drive against Stalingrad has lost none of its strength, and the position remains tense,” says the Moscow "Pravda.” The Moscow radio stressed that the German tactics aim at cutting _ across the city to the Volga. Stalingrad, which stretches for 35 miles along the river bank, is narrowest in the centre. Some of the bitterest fighting is still going on in the outskirts. In some parts the enemy have made small gains, but the Soviet Guards defending the most vital sector are stoutly holding their ground. Successive German counter-attacks A are still being made against the Soviet ” attack from outside Stalingrad in the north-west. ;
