GUEST TEA

SERVICEMEN ENTERTAINED AT Y.M.C.A. ENJOYABLE MUSICAL EVENING. The Kowhai Group, Women’s Institute, were the hostesses at the guest tea to men of the armed forces, held yesterday in the Y.M.C.A. rooms, Masterton. The large attendance required two sittings for tea. . Mr R. Gilbert, representing the Y.M.C.A. board of directors, introduced Mrs A. Keir (president of the Institute) and the new Y.M.C.A. field secretciry, Mr Liebezeit (formerly oi Waiouru). Mrs Keir welcomed the men and thanked the lady helpers foi their services. Mr Liebezeit conducted a brief devotional service. The Institute song, “Comrades and Friends,” was sung and elocutionary ’terns were given by Miss B. Henderson and songs by Miss F. Youngquest. Miss M. West was the accompamste. During the second tea sitting Margaret Dagg and Rhonda Brown gave a mandolin item. Sergeant Purser, on behalf of the men, thanked the hostesses for the the tea, community hymns and songs were sung and later in the evening Mr C. Lyttle screened some films. A short musical. • programme was presented the contributors being Mr D. Tagg (violin) accompanied by Miss Tagg, Mrs Rayner (song) accompanied by Mrs Snowsill Junr., and th Misses Douglas (vocal duet) accompanied by Miss Barber.. All performers received an appreciative hearing from the large attendance of servicemen. .
