WOMEN’S INSTITUTE
UPPER PLAIN MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) The monthly meeting of the Upper Plain Women's Institute was held at the residence of Mrs E. Clement. The chair was occupied by Mrs L. Tankersley. Mrs Clement and Miss McKenzie were appointed to assist with the tea at the Y.M.C.A. on Sunday. September 27. Mrs Clarke and Miss McKenzie were appointed delegates to attend the half-yearly council meeting of the Wairarapa Federation of Women's Institutes. It was reported that P/scwt. of waste paper had been sent to the depot in fhurch Street, Masterton. , . Seed potatoes are now being distributed to members in readiness for the potato growing competition. . Mrs Scharnweber gave a most instructive gardening talk, dealing among other things, with the preparation of seed beds and the making of a compost heap. The competitions resulted:—Date loaf. Mrs Tankersley, 1: Mrs Laing. 2. Best bloom: Mrs Laing. 1: Mrs W. Taplin, 2.
