September 22. It is estimated in Berne that 100,000 persons are trying to escape from France to Switzerland. The regulations covering the admission of refugees are being tightened up. It was announced in the Chamber of Deputies that 9,600 refugees were already in Switzerland. They were sent to labour camps, where they were treated similarly to Swiss soldiers. A British United Press correspondent on the French frontier reports that the Germans executed seventy French hostages in Bordeaux as a reprisal for so-called terrorist attacks.
