FOOD PARCELS

FOR NEW ZEALAND WAR PRISONERS

RESERVES BUILT UP.

lil GERMAN & ITALIAN CAMPS.

(Special P.A. Correspondent.) LONDON, September 21

The International Red Cross has informed the New Zealand High Commissioner, Mr W. J. .lordan, that the shortage of food' parcels in Italian prisoner of war camps has now been remedied, that full supplies have been sent Io all camps from Geneva, and that also an additional reserve of two parcels a man has been established. All camps in Germany have received an extra fortnight’s supply for reserve. Mr .lordan said: "Perhaps that news will be consoling to the people of New Zealand as reports had arrived that there was a shortage of food whidh did actually exist at that time.” , Mr James C. Bellwood, Christchurch, writing to Mr C. B. Burdekin, head of the Prisoners of War Department, states: "1 must again express to you and to all responsible behind you my gratitude for the wonderful iorcsignt and consideration that is accorded New Zealand prisoners, which is so particularly noticeable in comparison with our Australian and English cousins. New Zealand mail is rolling in splendidly. Mr Albert T. Carlisle, Christchurch, reports starting a theatre. “We have a lull orchestra, dress designers, and scenic artists,” he says, ‘‘and the shows presented are up to the standard of a city production. At Christmas I wrote and produced 'Cinderella.’ I am now rehearsing ‘The Student Prince,’ for which the Red Cross sent the score. Could you send me the score of ‘Lilac Time,’ also ‘Maid of the Mountains’? ‘‘Performances arc three times weekly. Chaps returning from working Slalags and resting here appreciate our shows.”
