Mrs R. J. Barton, -Pownall Street, Masterton, is staying at Castlepoint. Mrs C. S. Monro, King Edward Street, Lansdowne, is spending a holiday at Castlepoint.

Captain and Mrs J. Lampen. Auckland, are the guests of Mr and Mrs T. Jordan, Lansdowne. Mrs McCracken and Mrs McConnell. Villa Street, Masterton. who have been visiting Napier, have returned to Masterton.

At Featherston yesterday the death took place of a well known resident in the person of Mr Edward Hosking, at the age of 70 years. The death occurred at Pahiatua yesterday of Mrs Emily Bethia Jaspers, widow of Mr Thomas Jaspers, formerly of Newman, in her 90th year.

Mr and Mrs J. R. Carswell of Matahiwi, have received a cable that their son.' Gunner Ken Carswell, who was wounded in the fighting in the Middle East, has been discharged from hospital and is now fit and well. The death occurred in Wanganui yesterday of Mi- A. W. J. Peacock, secretary of the Wanganui Lawn Tennis Association for more than 14 years. He was recognised throughout. New Zealand as an outstanding figure on the administrative side of tennis. Born in Christchurch 59 years ago. Mr Peacock was treasurer of Avonside Club. Christchurch, for 15 years and was a life member. He was also a life member of Wilding Park Court's. Christchurch. He is survived by his wife and one child.

Official advice of the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Squadron Leader Donald Carlson, R.A.F., who was born at Owhango. King Country, and educated at the Owhango primary school and Wellington College. has been received by Air Headquarters, Wellington. Squadron Leader Carlson, who has destroyed at least three enemy aircraft, has a large list of operational sorties to his credit. In paying tribute to Squadron Leader Carlson's ability and qualities as an officer, the citation states: "He is a skilful and energetic squadron commander who. by his outstanding personal example, has brought his squadron to the highest pitch of fighting efficiency.”
