COMMUNIST GAINS

IN SWEDISH LOCAL ELECTIONS NAZI NEWSPAPER ATTACKS. ACCOMPANIED BY SINISTER THREATS. (By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright) (Received This Day. 12.30 p.m.) STOCKHOLM, September 21. Communists have gained control of sixteen more councils as a result, of yesterday's elections, giving them control of 42 councils. Social Democrats (the Labour Party) lost 34 districts, but still control 830 out of 1,500 councils. The Nazi Party still does not control a single council. The Swedish newspapers welcome the election results as an endorsement of neutrality, unity and faith in the democratic regime. The Berlin radio says the Communist increase in Sweden does not surprise Berlin. Bolshevism is building up new strongholds in Sweden. This development has not yet reached its final stage and must be closely watched by the European Powers fighting Bolshevism.

The German newspapers continue their attacks against Sweden. The Berlin “Boorsen Zeitung” today says: ‘•The German Government is paying increasing attention to the political developments in Sweden, especially Communist activities and Russian and British espionage, which the Swedes do not curb sufficiently. Germany can no longer overlook these developments.
