OBITUARY
MR J. W. McEWAN. FORMER MAYOR OF PETONE. (Bv Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The death is reported at Silverstream of Mr J. W. McEwan, foi years Mayor of Petone, aged 84. Petone’s importance as an industrial centre can be attributed largely to his indefatigable activities. He served on the Wellington Hospital Board for 16 vears and was the first chairman of the Hutt Valley Electric Power Board For many years he held office on the Wellington Harbour Board, part of the time as chairman. He retired from public life about ten years ago. MR W. J. THOMPSON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. The death has occurred of Mr W. J. Thompson, for many years a prominent citv councillor and well known in New Zealand bowling circles. He was 82 years of age.
