SERVICEMEN ENTERTAINED

FREE TEA AT MASTERTON Y.M.C.A.

LARGE ATTENDANCE LAST NIGHT

Yesterday’s function at the Masterton Y.M.C.A. rooms was again well patronised by Servicemen. The attendance was one of the biggest yet seen at the Free Teas and necessitated two full sittings at five long tables. The East Coast settlers and their friends kindly provided the eatables and on their behalf the tables were waited.on by members of the Y.M.C.A. Ladies’ Auxiliary and others. Mr H. M. Bpddington, representing the settlers, spoke of the pleasure it had been to make the tea possible and of the valuable assistance given by Mrs Ralph Tatham in collecting the pro-, visions and by Mr lan Gray, who gratuitously transported the provisions from the coast. He referred also to the assistance of the members of the Ladies’ Auxiliary. All helpers were heartily acclaimed. Mr T. A. Russell represented the Board of Directors and the Field Secretary, Mr Campbell, conducted the devotional period. Pte. P. F. Luxton expressed the thanks of those present. A vocal solo contributed by Miss Tawharc, accompanied by Mrs Chrisp, and a violin solo by Pte. C. Lambert with Pte. Les Sawyer at the piano were much appreciated. 1 Following the tea, time was spent in community hymn singing in the lounge and after the church services, with a programme of picture screening, interspersed with songs by Miss D. Jamieson and Mr R. G. Gilbert and elocutionary items by Mrs Keltic. Mr Miller Hope accompanied the soloists.
