INDOOR BOWLS

MASTERTON CLUB PICKERING WINS SINGLES PAIRS TO STEARS AND MOONEY. The Masterton Indoor Bowling Club concluded its activities for the winter season on Tuesday last. In the champion pairs Stears and E. Mooney (s) defeated Freeman and Dewar (s) by 20 to 19. The game provided a keen struggle. Dewar scored 5 on the first three heads. On the twelfth head Mooney led 17 to 7 but at the twentieth Dewar led 19 to 17. Then Mooney, with a remarkable shot, scored three on the last head to win the game. In the singles championship Pickering defeated A. Gray 23 to 14. Pickering played his usual fine drawing game and although Gray played some excellent shots the play was mostly against him. At the conclusion of the games the club’s patron, Mr A. W. Chapman, presented the prizes and congratulated the club in being able to carry on under very adverse circumstances. Refreshments were subsequently provided.
