GALLANT FIGHT
MADE BY WELLINGTON BOMBER
AGAINST FIVE JUNKERS PLANES. ONE DESTROYED & OTHERS ALL DAMAGED. (British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 11.30 a.m.) RUGBY, September 17. Attacked by five Junkers, while a sixth kept a lockout for R.A.F. long-range fighters, a lone Wellington of a Polish Squadron operzating with the Coastal Command not or.ly fought off the enemy but destroyed one' and damaged the other four. The combat took place yesterday afternoon over the Bay of Biscay, whle the Wellington was on an antisubmarine patrol. The Wellington, although short of petrol and hit in the starboard wing, engine, airscrew, tail and and fuselage, reached home safely.
