R.S.A. SOCIAL

GATHERING IN MASONIC HALL.

ACTIVITIES OF DOMINION EXECUTIVE.

An enjoyable social evening of ‘“Diggers” was held in the Masonic Hall on Wednesday night, when an attendance of 200 veterans of the Great War, besides a number of returned members of the Second New Zealand Expeditionary Force, gathered for social intercourse. Visiting ex-servicemen from all over the Wairarapa were present. Items were rendered by Messrs H. R. McMinn and R .G. Gilbert, and Mr Fred Price amused the audience with his blackboard sketches. t Mr J. Baybutt, late Second N.Z.E.F., gave an interesting talk on his travels and experiences with the Second Echelon in England and Egypt. The guest of the evening was Mr G. B. Menzies, honorary secretary of the Napier R.S.A., and who is also Welling-ton-East Coast District vice-president of the New Zealand Returned Services’ Association. Mr Menzies spoke at length on the activities of the Dominion Executive of the New Zealand Returned Services Association, and on what was being done on behalf of the present-day members of the armed forces. Mr Menzies’s remarks were interspersed with a good deal of “Digger” humour. Mr A. Miller Hope acted as accompanist. Suppe'r was served.
