BOY SCOUTS
WEEKLY CARD PARTY. ("Times-Age” Special.) The weekly card party held by the Boy Scout Committee took place in the Band Room last evening. The prizes were won as follows—Ladies, Nirs C. Holland 1, Mrs F. Jackson, Junr., 2. Men: Mr F. Jackson, Junr., 1; Mr C. Holland 2. Personal items. On the eve of his leaving the employ of Mr H. Knutson, _ grocer, to enter upon military duties, Mr D. Irwin was farewelled by the staff and presented with a cheque from the firm. „ , Mr and Mrs J. C. Harp, of Belvedere Street, Carterton, have received a cable message from their son, Pte. Alan Harp, of the Middle East Forces, that he is fit and well. Mrs M. Hart, of Palmerston North, is the guest of Mrs C. Holland, Garrison Street. New Books in Library. The following new books have been added to the shelves of the Carterton Public Library:—“Murder by Nail,” J. Farnol; “Seven Tempest,” V. Wilkins; “To Sing With the Angels,” Maurice Hindus; ;“The Hour Before Dawn,” G. Winn; “Botany Bay,” Chas. Nordhoge and Jas. N. Hall; “Steady As You Go,” Bartimeus; “From Gibraltar to Suez,” Lord Strabolgi. Donation to Patriotic Fund. The secretary of the Carterton and district patriotic appeal has received from the Y.M.C.A. a cheque for £lOO toward the fund. Soldier Entertained. Carrington residents at the weekend entertained Private Fred Dew, son of Mr and the late Mrs A. Dew, when a most enjoyable time was spent in dancing to music supplied by Messrs C. E. and G. Miller. Mr A. G. Card was M.C. Mr W. Wilson, on behalf of settlers, presented Private Dew with a wallet. Miss Thompson, on behalf of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, presented Pte. Dew with a parcel of woollen comforts. The recipient. suitably acknowledged the gifts. Supper was provided by the ladies of the district.
