REGENT THEATRE
“LADIES IN RETIREMENT.'’ The unforgettable drama of four women and one man in a house of dreadful secrets is the story of ‘Ladies in Retirement,” which will be shown tonight. Ida Lupino gives a brilliant performance as the. woman who murders her mistress to keep a roof over the heads of her pathetic sisters. Elsa Lanchescer ana Evelyn Keyes are the sisters, tragically funny in their simplicity and their cunning. Louis Hayward has a murderer’s soul, but he lacks the coinage and the motive. The story is set m a picturesque house on the lonely fogbound marshlands close to the English coast. The house is owned by a retired actress; Ida Lupino is her companion, whose efforts to obtain a peaceful sanctuary for her two rather unbalanced sisters is the basic motive oi the drama.
