MALTA’S GEORGE CROSS

PRESENTED BY LORD GORT. (British ■ Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 13. At a ceremony in Palace Square, Valetta, the Commander-in-Chief of Malta, Field-Marshal Lord Gort, today handed the Chief Justice of Malta the George Cross awarded to the island by the King in recognition of the gallant service which the people of Malta have rendered in the fight for freedom. Lord Gort said that what Malta had withstood in the past Malta was determined to endure "till the day when the second siege was lifted. Meanwhile Malta stood firm, undaunted and undismayed awaiting the time vzhen it could call: “Pass friend, all's well m the island fortress.”
