RAILWAY CUTS

CAUSED BY COAL STRIKE WILL CAUSE MAIL DELAYS. HOUSEHOLD FUEL POSITION IN WELLINGTON. (By Telegraph—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, This Day. With the curtailment of railway services, there will inevitably be a delay in mail services. Postal officials say that mails will be sent by whatever trains are running—more than that could not be done. Merchants at present are carrying large stocks of coal, but not a great deal of household coal comes from the Waikato. The strike, therefore, is not likely to have any marked effect on supplies in Wellington, but if the strike is a prolonged one there might be repercussions. In any event, ..the demand for household coal is showing a seasonal decline and the strike might have come at a worse time.
