COUNTY AFFAIRS
FEATHERSTON COUNCIL MONTHLY MEETING. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Featherston County Council there were present: Councillors Martin (in the chair), G. J. Gillies, J. C. Bidwill, R. W. Matthews, J. A. McLeod, L. J. Thompson and W. S. Cameron. Apologies for absence were received from Councillors Smith and Donald. The chairman welcomed Councillor W. G. Cameron as councillor for the Pahaoa Riding, he having taken the place of his father, Mr D. Cameron, who had resigned after 22 years’ service owing to failing health. Councillor Cameron suitably replied. The Moroa Water Race Committee wrote asking the council to instruct the county solicitor to proceed with the sale of the Kaiwaiwai cottage. The request was agreed to. A letter was received from Mrs I. E. V. Mellish asking the council to attend to the groyne work at the Cemetery Bridge, Featherston. It was decided that the engineer attend to the matter. The Girl Guides’ Association .wrote asking the councillors to assist in the collection of waste cloth for the Army and Air Force. Councillors decided to assist the Guides where possible. A letter was received from, the Martinborough Borough Council thanking the council for its assistance during the earthquake period. It was decided to write to the Borough Council thanking it for its letter and stating that the County Council had been veity pleased to assist and in fact considered it its duty to assist wherever possible. The ranger reported that 96 dogs had been registered and 4 cows impounded.
