STANDARD CLOTHS

RANGE OF COLOURS OFFERED IN AUSTRALIA.

“Bomber Blue” and “Soldier Red” are among the topical names which have been given to colours in the new Australian standard cloths for women s wear to meet war conditions. Women’s cloth is divided into two categories: a light type for dresses and a heavier one for coats; but variety has been obtained .by a number of fancy weaves. Discussing samples on view in Melbourne, the Controller of Woollens, Mr R. J. Vicars, pointed out that women would have an adequate range of colours to choose from. Twelve self-colours will be available, as well as auxiliary colours obtained by mixing the former. All the orthodox shades are included. Blues range from sky-blue down to a deep navy. A clear shade of yellow and a deep red also a soft grey, will be available. Some of the materials are woven with a slight spot; in others a crisscross effect is obtained For casual wear, in the heavier materials, thei is a green and yellow mixture in a diagonal stripe very suitable, for coats. This weave will be repeated in various foundation colours, including blu s. When these standardised cloths were available to the public people would be agreeably surprised, Mr Vicais prophesied.
