LIBERATOR BOMBERS

WILL OPERATE SOON FROM BRITAIN. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, September 12. An indication that the great fourengined Liberator bombers which are being mass-produced by the Ford Willowrun factory at Michigan will soon operate from Britain, was given by Mr Robert Patterson, United States Under-Secretary for War. These 248 bombers constituted the backbone of the American striking force, said Mr Patterson, and he added that still better machines were on their way. He described the outstanding performances of the Liberators in the Middle East and of the Flying Fortresses over Europe. Liberators have actually been operating for some time with the R.A.F. Coastal Command, but Mr Patterson’s remarks seem to indicate that they will be taking their place along with Flying Fortresses in the United States Army Air Force in Britain. .
