EKETAHUNA
POWER BOARD OFFICE REMOVED TO PAHIATUA. (“Times-Age” Special.) At the monthly meeting of the Tararua Power Board it was decided that the chief accounting office be permanently established at Pahiatua and the necessary transfer of the staff and material be effected as soon as possible. This course was decided on after the matter had been very fully discussed and although the members were reluctant to authorise the permanent transfer from Eketahuna it was agreed that financially it was the only reasonable thing to do due to the room being available in the Pahiatua building. It was decided to sell the building at Eketahuna for demolition and removal and the Engineer-Manager was directed to make a schedule of material and fittings that could be salvaged. Mr L. Johnston was added to the committee which had been appointed al a previous meeting to arrange the matter of disposing of the building and the committee was given power to coop the services of Mi- C. H. Parsons. A bonus of £5 each was granted to two members of the salaried staff in recognition of their devotion to duty and long hours of work they had put in during the emergency following the earthquake at Eketahuna on June 24, and the flood at Pahiatua on July 13. Personal. The funeral of the late Mrs Kathleen McKenzie, daughter of Mr and Mrs L. Houlbrooke, of Eketahuna, took place at the Karori Cemetery on Saturday. The service at the Mortuary Chapel was conducted by the Rev. F. Owen, Vicar of Plimmerton, who, in an impressive address said that Mrs McKenzie had been untiring in rendering service to the community and stood as an example of a true Christian woman. The service was largely attended by relatives and friends as well as V.A.D.’s of whom she had been commandant. The pall bearers were her four brothers and two brothers-in-law. The numerous floral tributes from organisations and friends bore testimony to the high esteem in which Mrs McKenzie was held. She leaves a family of three.
