SHORT OF QUOTA

— NATIONAL SAVINGS CAMPAIGN. SHARP DECLINE RECORDED. During the past eight weeks, figures indicate a sharp decline in the weekly savings made in Masterton by National Savings investors, and as a result the weekly quota of £784 is not being obtained. No doubt the recent disorganisation in the district caused by the earthquake has operated to some extent against the interests of the National Savings returns. However, the way is open again for a further effort to be made to raise the flag to the top of the flagpole. An appeal is made to citizens to make regular and generous weekly contributions to the National Savings cause and so assist in keeping the flag flying. By so doing they will be helping not' only in the attainment of the local quota, but also in the National war effort. Incidentally, also, they are providing a safe investment for their funds in- a readily negotiable form at what is today a satisfactory rate of interest. ' A sum of £560 is still required to complete this week’s quota. Deposits made in National Savings accounts bear interest at 3 per cent per annum and are repayable on June 30, 1945. National Savings bonds carry interest at the rate of 3 per cent per annum for a term of 5 years from the date of issue.
