ADVANCE IN EWE PRICES

At Addington today the attendance was the smallest seen at the yards for a long time 1 , but competition was keen. Good ewes showed an advance of Is to Is 6d a head, and medium and inferior the same as last week, while ewes with lambs also maintained their values.

rhe fat cattle sale was very keen. Prime steers showed an advance of about 15s a head, and the best of the heifers a slightly lower increase.

Prices for wethers showed a slight decline on last week’s values, but ewes registered a rise of Is to Is 6d a head.

The porker entry was similar in size to last week’s. Values rose from the outset by 5s to Cs a head. Choppers were in small supply and values showed little change. The yarding of baconers was about double that o£ last week and the sale of. good quality pigs was very keen. MASTERTON SALE FAT SHEEP IN DEMAND, The Associated Auctioneers report on their weekly jyiasterton sale held yesterday as follows: In spite of the inclement weather conditions a good yarding of all classes of sheep came forward and a small entry of cattle, there being a large and representative attendance. Fat sheep were again in demand, fat ewes selling on a par with last week’s sale while wethers hardened slightly. Store sheep were in demand and wether hoggets which comprised medium sorts met with spirited sale. The fat cattle were mostly unfinished cows and heifers and made rates well up cn those ruling of late. A total clearance was effected tinder the hammer, and the following list of our principal sales will indicate values: —Sheep: Good heavy fat wethers, 38s, 38s 6d to £2; light fat wethers, 355, 36s to 375; shorn fat wethers, 25s 3d: fat ewes, 275, 27s lOd, 28s. 28s 6d to 295; light fat ewes, 20s, 21s to 225; light fat hoggets, 20s to 21s; medium shorn wether hoggets, 19s 6d, 20s, to 20s 3d; woolly wether hoggets. 20s. 225; woolly ewe hoggets, 265; small to medium woolly ewe hoggets, 20s, 21s 3d; fwd. condition wethers. 28s 9d to 30s. Fat cattle: Prime fat 4yr heifers, £lO 10s; fat heifers, £8 ss, £8 10s, £8 17s (id: light fat'heifers, £’7 10s, £7 15s, to £7 17s 6d; cows, fat. £8 6s; fat bullocks, light, £l2; spg. The Associated Auctioneers- report as follow on their Pahiatua sale: A small yarding of sheep and dairy cattle with a medium entry of pigs were offered to a large attendance of local buyers. In the dairy section values remained firm on late rates, and practically a total clearance was made at auction. Fat wethers were in short supply and realisations were up on previous sales. A few pens of wether hoggets sold at late rates. Pigs were in keen demand, but in some instances the prices received were not a fair indication of the market as the purchasers required the- breeds for breeding purposes, and were willing to pay more than if required for fattening. Quotations: Spg. cows (good), £ll 15s to £9 10s; medium quality, £9 5s to £8 15s; poorer sorts, £8 10s to £6; spg. heifers (good), £lO to £8 ss: smaller sorts, £8 to £6 15s. Fat wethers, 375, 33s to 325; w. hoggets, 23s 8d to 22s 9d. Pigs: Stores, £3 4s to £2 15s; wnr. pigs, £2; 4s, 355, 34s to 30s.
