■ ■'« — DANCE & EUCHRE ENJOYABLE GATHERING. (“Times-Age” Special.) A hard-up dance and euchre tournament organised by the bachelors of the district and held in the Memorial Hall on Saturday evening was a decided success. There was a large attendance and the bachelors are to be complimented on the manner in which they conducted the gathering. A most enjoyable time was spent by those present. The prizes at euchre were won by Mesdames W. Taylor and G. Mclntosh (ladies) and Mrs S. Antony and W. Taylor (men.) The various raffles were won by L. Watson (dinner, Mrs Sutton and J. Atkinson (fruit) and A. J. Keller (bridle). The prizes for the most appropriate costumes were won by Mr John Tilson (men and Miss J. Scrimegour (ladies). The Monte Carlo dance was won by Mrs Rangi and partner, and the spot waltz by Miss Hadfield and Mr Tauwhiri. The music was supplied by a local orchestra and Mr Ken Busch capably carried out the duties of M.C. The proceeds from the gathering are to be donated to the Navy League and Coastal' Minesweepers’ Fund. Personal Items. Mrs J. H. Atkinson, who has been visiting relatives in Christchurch, has returned to Pirinoa. Mr and Mrs Taurau, who attended the funeral of the late Mi- W. Mihaere, a well-known resident of Dannevirke, have returned home. Private B. Leach, who returned from overseas, is staying with his parents. Mr George (“Dad”) Elliot, formerly of Pirinoa, is the guest of Mr and Mrs O. Anderson. Misses L. Crosbie (Palmerston North) and J. Crosbie (Masterton) are visitors to Pirinoa. Mr Geo. Thorner has been confined to his bed with a severe attack of influenza. Mr E. C. Holmes, who was an inmate of a private hospital in Featherston, has sufficiently recovered to be able to return to his homp. Local Home Guardsmen will wish their commanding officer a speedy recovery to good health. Whitebait. Whitebait are being netted at the Lake Ferry in small quantities. There should be a good run now that conditions are more favourable. Lower Valley Dairy Company. The shareholders of the Lower Valley Co-operative Dairy Company held their annual meeting recently. The report and balance-sheet disclosed the finances of the company to be in a very satisfactory state. Mr E. Barton was elected a director, vice Mr D. S. Sutherland resigned. The board of directors comprise Messrs C. Smith (chairman), A. Linton, A. Weatherstone, J. Jameson, E. Barton, K. McMaster and D. Gray.
