The Plum crop in Britain, which was estimated to amount to 100.000 tons this year, will be nearer 120,000 tons, of which 45,000 tons are now being harvested in Kent by soldiers, women and children. Very little of the crop will be wasted. About 70,000 tons go on to the market, 20,000 tons will be made into jam and the remainder will be pulped for jam-making later.
