ATTACK IN FORCE
ON RHINELAND TOWNS MADE BY BRITISH BOMBERS. SIXTEEN FAIL TO RETURN. LONDON, August 25. A strong .force of'R.A.F. bombers al tacked Frankfurt and Wiesbaden last night. Strong forces of enemy night fighters were active. Many fires were started. Railways in the Low Countries were also attacked. Sixteen bombers are missing. Over this country early this morning an enemy bomber was destroyed off the South coast. Later in the day an enemy plane bombed points in the Horne Counties, doing slight damage. This afternoon an alert was sounded in the London area. MANY FIRES STARTED IN GERMAN CITIES. FIGHTERS ATTACK RAILWAYS IN LOW COUNTRIES. I British Official Wireless.) (Received This Day, 10.25 a.m.) RUGBY, August 25. The Air Ministry states that the attacks on Frankfort and Wiesbaden were made in bad weather. Many fires were started in Frankfort and Wiesbaden, the Air Ministry news service states. Low clouds helped the German night fighters. One squadron met eleven of these, but escaped without casualties. Many other fighters were over the target above the flak. Aircraft of the Fighter Command attacked railway objectives in the Low Countries and destroyed a number of engines.
