ST. MATTHEW’S SCOUTS
ANNUAL MEETING OF GROUP COMMITTEE GOOD WORK ACHIEVED DURING YEAR. HIGH STANDARD MAINTAINED. The annual meeting of the St. Matthew’s Scout Group was held in the Parish Hall last evening. The Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich presided over a good attendance of parents and Scouters. In moving the adoption of the report the chairman said that the past year had been very successful. Over the past 19 years a large number of boys had passed through St. Matthew's Group and he felt that a uniformly high standard of scouting work had been maintained. The vision of the founder of the movement had been that year by year throughout the Empire there should be groups of boys entering into the life of the community who had learned the scouting ideal of duty to God and country, which were so essential in an ordered community life. And unquestionably that vision had been fulfilled to a great extent. Of the activities of the past year, Scout Week had been most outstanding and was a great success. Archdeacon Rich thanked the Scouters for their work and felt they were succeeding in inculcating the fine spirit of scouting in the boys. He also thanked the committee for their work. The reports of the Scoutmaster (the Rev. I. C. Edwards), the Cubmaster, Miss E. Braggins (No. 1 Pack), and the A.C.M., Miss J. Askew (No. 2 Pack) revealed a year's steady work and continued enthusiasm among the boys The election of officers resulted:— President, the Ven. Archdeacon E. J. Rich; vice-presidents, Mesdames A. G. Moser, B. V. Skeet, Isles, J. Caselberg, Miss K. Morrison, Messrs A. L. Askew, W. A. Clarke, J. V. Dolan, S. L. P. Free, J. F. Jaine, W. Marchbank and G. It’ Thomas; committee, Mesdames E. E." Downes, Jaine, Marchbank, Messrs H. Braggins, Downes, W. L. Hunter, and A."M. Sanson; hon. auditor, Mr A. D. Low; acting-secretary, Mr W. L. Hunter. 4 It was decided that greetings be sent to Scouters serving overseas, telling them of the progress of the group and wishing them well and a speedy return home. It was also decided that a letter of thanks be sent the Mo Kotoa Scout Committee for the use of their Den during the earthquake emergency. The meeting closed with prayer and a hearty vote of thanks to the chairman. The annual rpeort stated, inter alia,' that Scout Week had been a great success. Though the- week was primarily intended to enlist Scouters and helpers they were not successful in getting any response in that direction but they did get a great number of new boys—32 Scouts and 30 Cubs.
