RACING YEAR
MASTERTON CLUB ANNUAL REPORT MEETING NOT POSSIBLE .. THIS YEAR. DECISION OF STEWARDS. “The club was most unfortunate in experiencing wet weather for the first day of its October meeting, and this affected the totalisator investments, which amounted to £19.277, compared with £22,778 in 1940, a decrease of £3501,” states the annual report of the Masterton Racing Club, for the year ended on June 30, 1942. ‘‘After writing off depreciation amounting to £ll9 12s lOd, the revenue account shows a loss of £282. “The club applied for October 3 and October 10, 1942, for its racing dates, but was only allotted one day, viz., Saturday, October 3. by the Racing Conference.” The report proceeds to state that the stewards, after very careful consideration, came to the conclusion that it would be impossible to hold a meeting on the course and that arrangements had been made to lease the course. The track facilities for the training of horses would not be interfered with, likewise the grazing lease. It was the intention of the stewards to appoint a sub-committee whose duties would be to see that the assets of the club were being protected and kept in order as far as possible. “All members will join with your executive in offering sympathy to the relatives of the late Mr Duncan McLachlan, a life member of the club, and Mr F. L. Williams,” the report states. “Twenty-one of our members are serving with the forces. To all these members we offer our best wishes for a safe and early return.” The report is presented on behalf of the executive by the president, Mr J. M. James.
